Getting Settled
Well … I finally made it to California.
I arrived at my parents’ house late in the afternoon on Wednesday after spending a few nights with them in Tahoe.
When I finally pulled into their steep driveway and my car came to an abrupt halt, I sat behind the wheel and muttered, “Holy shit. I made it.”
- 5,427 miles
- 22 states not including DC (Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, California)
- 46 days
- 1 time pulled over
Quick side story: I was driving through a small town called Breckenridge right at the border of Minnesota and North Dakota when I saw the flashing lights of an SUV cop behind me. The officer quickly walked to my window, “You were going way too fast. There were multiple signs! Slow down! Tickets are expensive in Minnesota.” He looked at my license, read my plates to dispatch and let me go. I slowed down. - 0 troubles with my car. Gotta love dem Subarus
- 2 nights in hotels – Bloomington, IL = Cheap. Jackson, WY = expensive.
Ugh. Just realized I sound like a MasterCard commercial. Lame.
Sorry about that. Back to Wednesday …
After the hum of the road had cooled in my head, I sat down on the driveway, leaned my back against the front door, and looked out towards the milk and honey and wine. Sadness, confusion, ambivalence, excitement?
I still don’t know quite what to make of it all.
Which is why I hope Crab Sandwich will be more than just a ‘travel blog.’ There is more to process. More to share.
So while my body remains relatively static over the next few months, I will continue to update this site with thoughts and ramblings and experiences … from myself and perhaps others.
So feel free to check back every once and a while.
Regardless … Thank you for joining me thus far.
