Buzzcut
Late last month, Cabinda got itself all gussied up for its birthday: “Day of Cabinda.” Within a matter of days, the town transformed from the normal dusty streets to the normal dusty streets with Christmas lights on every tree, annoying blue lights hanging on government buildings, and traffic lines magically painted on the roads.
The city put on its first-ever expo at the “Multi-Uso” center, complete with conference booths and food and cows and such. Kelli and I strolled around the expo, grabbed a few Super Bocks and even managed to catch a local soccer game:
But the main event was to be a motocross race right in our backyard. Our “backyard” happens to be a large expanse of unused land that many moons ago was going to be a recreation center or park or something. You can even see a bizarre forgotten pool out there, high-dive platform and all.
In preparation for the race, officials from the city did what any reasonable event planners would do: they razed all the lush green foliage to make way for the buzzing two-strokes:

We’re definitely not too stoked to have to look at this eyesore every day. But on the afternoon of the race, the people of Cabinda seemed to be pretty excited … because every man, woman and child in the city must have come out for the race. Now if we could only get the dirt out of our teeth.
